Eison, Anyi & Timothy were playing with ropes on the grey concrete floor of the Dairy Farm Shed, when a little honey-butt ant walked into their space of play. They laid down onto the floor with their ropes instinctively, and started making a maze out of the ropes for the little ant to move through. It was a precious moment of interaction between the Forest School children and our wild Nature. The little ants were navigating enthusiastically through their maze, to the amazement and curiosity of the children.
But all of a sudden, Timothy made a sudden movement, and knocked the ropes out of position. The rope-“wall” rolled over the ant, and it was squashed, with its torso flattened onto the ground.
The children gasped, and were saddened by their mishap. They grouped around to discuss what they should do. Tim said to bury it, while the rest said they should build a hospital for it.
They decided to gather a bunch of dried leaves and sticks, to cover-shelter-heal the little ant.
After a few minutes, they amassed a little stack of the dried brown leaves from the side of the shed, and arranged it all around the little ant.
Tim said his prayer to god for the ant. Anyi and Eison put their hands over the ant, and said their own prayers and healing wishes.
The little ant started to move…
Slowly but surely, the little ant stood back up and marched away out of the shed into the woods.
The children cheered and went back to their play with the ropes and space. It was as if they knew and believed wholeheartedly that it could happen. No one was surprised.
In that magical moment of pure faith and innocence, they created a miracle that would have baffled most people.
Children have the closest spirit to the Forest and the beings of life. They are the representation of the infinite possibility of the universe.
They are the embodiment of Nature.
