There are many Forest Schools and Forest School-like initiatives in Singapore. We have made a list of recommended Forest School initiatives in Singapore that we feel have really lived up to the FS Approach of Child-led, Nature-Led & Context-Led.
Context : Everyone here, do not exercise Forest School the same way. They all bring their own unique personality as leaders and practitioners into the practice of working with children and parents. What is more important, is their intention and heart for the work. We also have to take into account the communities and stakeholders that they address in doing their work. These are all taken into consideration for this recommendation.
List is made in Mid-2025, to be updated in Mid-2026
1. Hundred Paths (Unique : Anchoring Rituals)
Hundred Paths is the leading Forest School for children and parents in Singapore. Their leaders, Aminah and Sabrina, together with their team, show immense depth and reflection with regards to how they do their work with children.
2. Nature Explorer School (Unique : Creative Craft)
Nature Explorer School is a Forest School that rides a lot with creativity and creation of the children. Their leader, Jenson, brings his own unique flavour and passion for craft and outdoors strongly into the Forest School sessions.
3. Gentle Seeds (Unique : Storytelling)
Gentle Seeds is a Forest School in my eyes. They exemplify the gentle touch of education, in guiding and working with children to develop their true potential. Their leaders, Madeline and Joey, married their beliefs in the Charlotte Mason pedagogy with that of the outdoors, children and Nature beautifully, in their delivery of the sessions.
4.Nature Den (Unique : Therapeutic)
Nature Den (or previously Forest School @ Lower Peirce) is one of the long-standing Forest Schools from pre-covid. The leaders, Mindy and David, bring with them their therapeutic work and flavours into the practice of Forest School, by giving a lot of space for the children to be themselves.
5. Outdoor School Singapore (Unique : Resource Access)
Outdoor School Singapore is one of the biggest trees in the Forest School scene, because they are backed by NTUC First Campus. They are a much bigger organisation that is trying to have every My First Skool children experience the Forest School ways. They are more structured in delivering the Forest School practice, which sits with the context of the stakeholders and communities that they do their work with.
6. Roots & Boots (Unique : Preschool Curriculur)
Roots & Boots is an Urban Forest School, which is also the only Forest School that has a preschool schooling schedule. Their curriculum fulfills the ECDA requirement for a preschool as well. The leader, Drizzle, brings her wealth of Early Childhood experience into the flow of how the Forest School is carried out, with the dream of making Forest School a viable outdoor preschool to the usual of Singapore
7. Longkang Adventure (Unique : Wild-Bushcraft)
Longkang Adventure is a Forest School that brings the meaning of wilderness and play to another level. Their leader, Akasha, brings his passion for bushcraft, outdoors and the wild into his practice with children and parents. He will go all the way to Indonesia to learn about Fire Making with Masters of Fire.
There are also many International Schools or Big Preschools who advocate that they have Forest School programmes. They may have it, but if you know the regulatory requirements of SCHOOLS and PRESCHOOLS in Singapore, you will understand that most of them will struggle with the tension of meeting the regulatory elements of SCHOOLS and the APPROACH of Forest School.
“So take their promotion and marketing of Forest School with a pinch of salt. What is more important is to speak with the Forest School leaders to see if he/she/they have a personal story that motivated them to embark on the FS journey.”
A true Forest School practitioner would naturally bring their unique flavours into their practice.
There are others in the Forest School movement that are gradually stepping up and building their own practice and communities as well. We will be happy to study the practice and work of other Forest Schools that are not in our radar yet, so as to expand the collective awareness and learning for the Forest School and Education communities.
