A Letter of Support – Coach Natasha

Reference for Natasha Saw in support of her application to the MSc Outdoor Environmental and Sustainability Education – 15 Months programme at the University of Edinburgh

I have known Natasha since she joined the team in November 2021. It has been almost a year since we got to know each other. She has been an outstanding coach of the Forest School Singapore team. She was promoted to Senior rank, earlier than most of her peers, due to her earnestness to improve, learn and grow. She demonstrated a high level of initiative to pick up more projects to expand her capacity. She also took the initiative to attend training and capacity building opportunities outside of her own job scope. This is very encouraging to observe from the point of a supervisor.

Natasha demonstrates great capacity to manage her own work and time, while committing to 2 weekly Forest School sessions over the course of 40-weeks in a year. At times, we will discuss whether the load is too much for her, but she was very clear about her capacity and limit. She was very clear about her own motivation and drive.

She rose in rank largely due to her capability to pick up on the little details that usually most coaches will take time to understand. During town halls or discussion, Natasha will not shy from making her point heard, while being objective about the issue. Her ability to relate her learnings and reflection from Forest School, with her other work at the Ministry, is also one of the impressive aspects that I am very honored to be able to witness. (Because most Ministry working individuals in Singapore, are much more box-ed up and exhibit less flexibility and reflectiveness).

I am very confident about her ability to complete the qualification and deliver whatever the university requires and probably beyond. I very strongly support her application to this.

Yours Sincerely
Quek Zhisheng Darren
Principal of Forest School Singapore
